How the collaboration with Cantiere Creativo began
Gruppo GEDI wanted a website separate from Repubblica's, dedicated to the Italian Tech Week conference and not strictly editorial.
The client was looking for a partner who could deliver a flexible, easy-to-edit, fast-loading website. That's why, after a successful past collaboration, they chose Cantiere Creativo for the job.
The site had to include an information section about the event and the schedule of talks by the various speakers in each room.
A new illustration for the event
Due to a series of setbacks, Italian Tech Week 2022 found itself without any graphics to go with its logo. Thanks to Cantiere Creativo's cross-functional teams, the design team was able to step in and help right away. The visual concept centered on a fluorescent color that echoed the logo and grabbed attention across every format.
DatoCMS made the whole team's job easier
Thanks to the headless nature of DatoCMS, the editorial team could start entering the huge volume of events and speakers into the CMS right away, while development was still underway.
Multilingual management made it possible to pursue different communication goals and to publish content in both languages, even at different times, as soon as it was ready.
It also made it possible to launch a landing page immediately with the most urgent event information, and to publish the speakers and agenda later.
The agenda
The agenda was needed because the event is highly structured: over two days, three Italian-language rooms, two English-language rooms and a masterclass hosted one hundred and fifty speakers simultaneously. The masterclass was in-person only, while the other sessions could also be followed via streaming.
The design and information architecture had to make it immediately clear to users which events were taking place each day, in which room and for how long.
Managing the agenda in DatoCMS was seamless thanks to a dedicated section for customizing events: we designed a system that cataloged each event both by the name users booked under and by an internal naming convention, making it easy to remember the time and room of each talk.
Once all the content was in, the filter feature made it quick to find any event in the list by different criteria: last modified date, author, alphabetical name or publication date.
Real-time updates for streaming and integrations with the Repubblica website
Beyond providing event information, the site had to integrate with the La Repubblica website.
Thanks to real-time updates implemented through DatoCMS, users saw the GEDI-managed stream appear without having to refresh the page. The same feature was also used for registrations and sold-out sessions.
Every time visitors accessed the site, they could follow the event live, check the latest news on the La Repubblica website and watch the latest episode of the Metropolis podcast in real time.
This significantly increased site traffic and achieved much higher levels of user reach.
Quality, speed and support during the event
The Cantiere Creativo team delivered the site on schedule and responded quickly to development requests that came up close to the event.
Design work began in May, and the first part of the site was already live in June. The agenda itself was built in twenty days.
During the event, Cantiere Creativo remained on hand to monitor traffic and handle content and SEO updates.
Despite three million connected users, the site maintained high standards of speed, reaching 99% in SEO performance and accessibility.
The client was delighted with the result and will continue working with Cantiere Creativo on the 2023 event, with the shared goal of growing together even further.
