Fondazione Arte della Seta Lisio
Heir to the workshop founded by Giuseppe Lisio in Florence in 1906, the Foundation’s mission is to keep alive and hand down the art of hand-weaving silk and precious metals, through production, education and cultural activities.
112 years of history, from traditional craftsmanship to ecommerce
Bringing the Foundation and its vast cultural heritage online was a challenge we gladly took on. Beyond an editorial website built with DatoCMS and crafted down to the smallest detail, a key requirement was letting users buy and subscribe to the Jacquard magazine and the Foundation’s other publications, and even purchase individual articles in digital format. To promote the Foundation’s educational work, we built a Courses section where users can pay the deposit and the balance for each course. Users can also book one-day study seminars, again paid directly on the site. Security is ensured by integrating DatoCMS with Snipcart and Stripe.
Branding
We worked with the communications department to refresh the Foundation’s established branding. The primary version of the logo is left-aligned and should be used whenever possible. We created a simplified version for smaller formats, plus a reversed version of the icon for quicker recognition.
Logo lockups
We developed several logo lockups for different contexts: alongside the standard version there is a stamp version, each to be used as specific needs require.
Building the logo mark
The logo design was inspired by an antique fabric: the flower has represented the Fondazione Lisio for many years, and now they can make better use of this element, which has become their trademark.
Website
Starting from a careful study of content and navigation, with a strong focus on UX and wireframe prototypes, we built a website that carries the branding into a user experience refined in every detail and on every device, thanks to a responsive, mobile-first approach.
Ecommerce
How do you enable online purchases on a static site generated with DatoCMS? Using the Snipcart API, we integrated a shopping cart for physical products (magazines and publications), magazine subscriptions and digital products (individual magazine articles). For course payments in the education section, we used Stripe’s powerful API directly, connected to Amazon AWS Lambda.
