Museo Civico di Siena

The Comune di Siena is renewing its websites, especially in the museum sector, and chose Cantiere Creativo as its technology partner for digital innovation and for defining the project's core elements.

The brief

The Comune di Siena had several key requirements for the Museo Civico website. First, the site needed a complete overhaul, both visually and functionally. A fundamental part of this renewal was making the site accessible to everyone. That meant ensuring content could be easily used by people with visual impairments, through appropriate color contrast and compatibility with the leading screen readers for blind and low-vision users.

More accessible, intuitive information for every user.

We focused on reorganizing the content and simplifying navigation, so visitors can easily find the information they're looking for.

Our approach was user-centered, meaning we designed solutions around users' needs. We prioritized the user experience, making sure every design decision improves usability and the visitor's overall experience.

A systemic approach: scalable and manageable by every team.

We took a component-based, design-system approach, making sure every element of the site complied with accessibility guidelines. This not only kept the final result visually consistent, it also made it easier to develop the components defined during wireframing.

This method created a modular structure that's easy to update and adapt to users' needs. Every component was designed to be intuitive and usable by everyone, including blind and low-vision users, significantly improving the user experience and making information accessible to a wider audience.

A clear, consistent image.

On the design side, the goal was to create an image closely aligned with the stated objectives. That meant adopting a consistent, recognizable visual style that strengthens the identity of the Museo Civico and the other connected museum sites. Every design element was crafted to contribute to an integrated user experience, where navigating and interacting with the various content is seamless.

This work is part of a broader effort to improve the digital services offered by the Comune di Siena, with the goal of creating a network of consistent, harmonious museum websites that meet visitors' needs in both quality and quantity. It not only improves the site's accessibility and usability but also helps showcase Siena's cultural heritage, making it more accessible and appealing to an ever-wider audience.
