Museo Ginori

Museo Ginori tells the story of the Richard-Ginori Manufactory (and more) through a rich collection of ceramics from the 18th century to the present day.

A future-facing museum website

The Museo Ginori website had to make the fascinating, far-reaching history of the Richard Ginori brand accessible to everyone, without barriers, offering content that inspires visitors and helps researchers.

The Fondazione Museo archivio Ginori aimed to build an advanced digital presence that meets the expectations of the most demanding digital users, taking its cue from the leading museum institutions in technology, efficiency and quality of offering.

The Agency method

For the Museo Ginori project, we chose the Agency Solution, which offered a faster time to launch and a method refined over more than ten years of experience with headless CMS solutions.

Many users, different needs

The information architecture started from the different audiences the website had to speak to, from prospective visitors to academics, all the way to local residents, for whom the Museum wants to become a lively cultural hub.

A clear, organic structure

From the history section, essential for understanding the cultural and political importance of a manufactory that has spanned centuries, users are guided to the extensive Works section, and can then dig deeper into themes and discover new stories in the Magazine.

The three main sections are designed to constantly connect with one another, thanks to content modeling that relates every page to others.

Working closely together

Through constant dialogue with the Foundation, with workshops and weekly check-ins, we built a first low-fidelity draft of the user interface that was very clear and well suited to their needs.

Modular and reusable

We designed the blocks and every page element building on the superb identity design work by Muttnik Studio.

The idea was to provide easily reusable blocks that can be combined in endless ways and used freely, so the editorial team can create new digital experiences without needing a developer.

Personality and recognizability

The vibrant color palette and the pairing of a Serif and a Sans font give the website a strong personality, effectively carrying the brand identity into the digital world.

A pared-back approach to buttons and icons keeps everything readable without betraying the brand identity's innate elegance.

Development without compromise

The website was built on the same tech stack we have successfully used for major museums and institutions such as the Ministry of Innovation and Digital Transformation.

The result is outstanding performance, with the homepage loading in around 0.4 seconds, and an architecture designed to scale with traffic, with no risk of outages or slowdowns.

Accessibility at the core

One of the project's goals was to democratize the Museum's content, so the entire site is designed and optimized to be inclusive and accessible, with particular attention to the needs of visually impaired and deaf users.

Open source

Although it is a private foundation, the Fondazione Ginori chose to invest in a solution that fully meets the standards required of public administrations by Italy's Digital Administration Code (Codice dell'Amministrazione Digitale), and to make the technology and design solutions it commissioned and owns available free of charge, so other public bodies can reuse them too.
