RubyDay 2015: almost there!

Almost there! Just a few weeks to go until the 5th edition of Rubyday, the annual gathering organized by RubyItalia, the association for the community of Ruby developers and its ecosystem of gems and frameworks such as Ruby on Rails. At Cantiere Creativo, together with two other companies, Nebulab and Welaika, we decided to take an active role in organizing this 2015 edition.

Francesco GiovannettiCEO

It all started at last year's edition: as developers and passionate Rubyists, we felt the need to actively contribute to its organization, so that the conference could grow stronger and become a solid, high-quality point of reference nationally (for the old guard and for young people who want to get into Ruby), and also start giving the event an international flavor, bringing it closer to the European conferences we often attend. These are the goals we've worked on over the past few months, bringing quite a few new features that we hope you'll enjoy!

What's new

The first changes you'll notice concern the event logistics: first of all, we chose to introduce a ticket. Although everyone always likes the word "free", a contribution that helps cover costs lets us offer better quality for an intense day we hope to make enjoyable. We managed to keep costs down, thanks in part to the many sponsors who supported us. So, besides a top-notch venue, we were able to include lunch and a fantastic T-shirt in the ticket price!

We worked hard on selecting the content (always a tough job when so many proposals come in!). We wanted to offer fresh ideas with many international speakers sharing their experiences with us, so many talks will be in English.

There will be two parallel tracks: the first is aimed at developers with experience in the Ruby world and in the new technologies gaining ground in the community, especially in web development, with topics such as ReactJS, Elixir and JSON API. There will be deep dives and a wide range of shared experiences. The second track is aimed more at people approaching these languages for the first time or just starting to experiment with them. In a dedicated room, there will also be some in-depth workshops on organizational best practices, security and microservices.

The #rubyday2015 program

This edition's program (here's the full schedule for the day) has caught the interest of many developers, who bought tickets from all over Europe to attend the conference in Turin.

Where is Ruby Day 2015?

We'll see you in Turin on Friday, November 13 at the very central Hotel Majestic (across from Torino Porta Nuova station), a majestic 19th-century building with magnificent Art Nouveau windows that will make this day special!

Once it's all over, we'll publish a recap and an assessment of our experience on this blog; for now, we can already say that it will be a pleasure and an honor to continue this journey next year too, to keep getting better!
