A June Full of Events

Back in January we promised: one of Cantiere Creativo's goals this year is to step up and improve our presence at events and conferences. Next month we'll reap the rewards of the work we've done over these past months, organizing — or partnering on — several events:

Schedule

iCODEX | June 10 and 11

Let's start with the event that is the real novelty of 2016 for us! Bookrepublic (a loyal client we've worked with for many years), together with Fondazione Cariplo, is organizing in Milan the first hackathon dedicated to cultural innovation: two non-stop days of talks and development, open to developers, designers, creatives and anyone with an idea related to culture.

So why are we involved?

Our contribution comes both from our experience promoting events that champion quality in app and prototype development, and from the years we've spent as nerds taking part in hackathons purely for fun. A good foundation for actively helping organize an event like iCODEX.

iCODEX has also set aside a special 3000 Euro prize for the team that stands out on the technology front, in terms of code quality, frameworks used and so on, and here too we can lend a hand to both the teams and the organizers.

Our very own @matteo will sit on a technical jury to evaluate the projects, while other members of the Cantiere team will be on hand throughout the event to provide technical support and mentorship to all participants.

You'll find all the details on the event website www.icodex.it, and if you're interested, sign up, even if you don't have a team ready or a specific idea: it's a great way to meet, interact and try out development work with new people! Spots are still open for developers and graphic/front-end designers.

BETTER SOFTWARE | June 13 and 14

Our long-running conference, now in its eighth edition, focuses on good management, ranging from agile methodologies to budgeting and human resources management.

This year we decided to change the conference's traditional talk format and offer two days of workshops only, so that participants aren't "just" bombarded with lots of input and context switching — which leads to distraction anyway — but can instead focus on specific topics, with more time to dig deeper and exchange ideas. On the website you'll find the event program with all the selected workshops.

Besides playing an active role in organizing the event, our own Marco Zampetti will make a debut with a workshop on best practices for implementing an HTML front-end

FLOR | June 6

Florence on Ruby (aka #FLOR) is an initiative Cantiere Creativo started in 2012 as a meetup for Ruby enthusiasts in and around Florence. Events ran for a couple of years on an irregular schedule, covering topics not only related to Ruby/Rails but also agile development techniques and JavaScript libraries.

This year's commitment aims to give the community a further boost by holding the event regularly, on a quarterly basis.

The Florence community (and beyond) is growing, so starting with this summer edition we've decided to leave our office and find a bigger, more welcoming venue. Many thanks to NanaBianca — the well-known Florentine startup incubator — for hosting this event. See you on Monday, June 6 from 7:00 p.m.

You'll find the event details on the website http://www.florenceonruby.it/; the event is free and open to everyone, with limited seats. You need to register on Eventbrite to attend.

Bonus track

And we're not stopping there! We're hard at work on Rubyday 2016, a two-day event in Florence on Friday, November 25 and Saturday, November 26. We'll publish the event details soon, stay tuned!
