DatoCMS Product Update for March-April: save minutes every day

Sometimes what makes a difference in everyday work isn't new features or dazzling technologies: even the simplest components can be rethought or improved to offer more options, saving precious moments of work, especially on projects with many records and large teams.

Let's take a look at the interesting new features coming to DatoCMS with its product updates for March and April, all about convenience, speed and simplifying the most common tasks.

Simple time zones for the whole team

Entering dates in DatoCMS is now even more intuitive, thanks to the time zone that's always visible next to the date picker.

For convenience, each user will see the entered date already converted to their own operating system's time zone, regardless of the one set in the project. Changing the default time zone in the localization settings takes just a few seconds:

Saving time when editing dates

A few handy shortcuts for typing times have also been added; for example, just type “15” and press “Tab” and the system will interpret that number as “15:00:00”. The time drop-down selector has also been removed, as it turned out to be more awkward than expected during design:

Generate new slugs with one click

A small new feature won't have gone unnoticed by those who create lots of new records in DatoCMS: a button has been added that lets you regenerate the value of a slug, the part of the URL that follows the slash after the domain (/) and identifies a specific page of a website. It works very simply:

Publish translated records faster

For very complex records, recreating blocks in a second language can take precious time. A new feature lets you copy all the content from the main language into the translations as well.

Duplicate blocks in seconds

There's also a handy new option to create a complete copy of an existing block. Depending on the content, this can save you a lot of time and, above all, give you peace of mind that you haven't forgotten anything when recreating a block. If the block contains nested blocks, those will be duplicated too:

New keyboard shortcuts

We can save a few more seconds with the new keyboard shortcuts designed to get content online faster.

  • Cmd/Ctrl + S saves the record
  • Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + S publishes the record

When you're editing or publishing lots of records every day, it's a surprisingly useful feature!

Work better and faster

A few seconds per record make a difference by the end of the week, especially for those who spend a lot of time creating and updating content. If you're not yet familiar with DatoCMS and want to see how its editing experience works, we recommend following our tutorials on the blog.
